Brad Elliot on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS — Everything You Need to Know

Brad Elliot was the first main character seen on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS when the soap premiered on CBS back in March 1973. The role was played by actor Tom Hallick from that very first episode until his exit in 1978. And as the guy settled down in Genoa City, he got mixed up in all kinds of drama, so here is his full story!

Brad Elliot arrived in Genoa City sporting injuries, torn clothes, and with no money. Spotted by Stuart Brooks at Pierre’s Restaurant unable to pay his bill, the wealthy owner of The Genoa City Chronicle paid his check and offered him a job working at the newspaper. After accepting, Brad took a room above the restaurant and befriended waitress Sally McGuire. While working at the paper, he secretly destroyed a report that Chicago doctor Brad Eliot had died in a car crash, his body burned beyond recognition.

Stuart’s daughter, Leslie Brooks, fell in love with Brad, who helped bring her out of her shell and become a successful concert pianist. When Leslie’s younger sister, Lorie Brooks, returned home after living it up in Paris, she fell for Brad and began coming between him and Leslie. She convinced Brad Leslie was no longer interested and convinced her sister that she’d slept with Brad! This gave Leslie a nervous breakdown and Lorie got engaged to Brad. But when Leslie was finally released from the sanitarium after months of therapy, Brad was horrified at what Lorie had done and dumped her.

Brad got back together with Leslie and helped her buy Pierre’s and turn it into The Allegro, a nightclub where she could perform. A jealous and spiteful Lorie dug up Brad’s past and revealed that he’d been a doctor in Chicago who had gone against hospital policy to operate on his own son, who had died during surgery. Brad was so distraught that he left his family and girlfriend Barbara Anderson behind in Chicago and faked his death with the car crash. Leslie helped Brad understand that his son’s death wasn’t his fault and reconcile with his family.

Brad and Leslie were finally married, but then Leslie went back on tour as a concert pianist where she was wooed by wealthy bachelor Lance Prentis. Leslie insisted her heart belonged to Brad and set Lance up with Lorie, instead. Brad learned he had chronic neuritis and was going blind, so rather than put Leslie through that ordeal with him, he turned horrible and asked for a divorce. But when Leslie became pregnant, he decided to tell her the truth and she promised she’d never give up her life for him. Unfortunately, Brad accidentally hit Leslie in the stomach with a suitcase, causing her to miscarry. In his grief, he filed for divorce and left town. He returned later, his eyesight restored by surgery, but Leslie rejected him and Brad left Genoa City for good.
