Tricia Cast Shares an Amazing Photo of Her and Kristoff St. John From 1979!

Talk about a Throwback Thursday! THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS actress Tricia Cast (Nina) shared a photo from 1979 where she’s posing as a young girl with an equally-young Kristoff St. John, who was beloved to fans of the CBS soap as Neil Winters until his tragic passing in 2019.

Some fans were surprised to learn that the actors knew each other back in 1979, but others knew that both Cast and St. John were members of the cast of the CBS sitcom THE BAD NEWS BEARS! Based on the 1976 film of the same name, the TV adaptation starred Jack Warden as Morris Buttermaker, the coach of the Hoover Junior High Bears, a team of young teens who weren’t really the best baseball players.

Cast played Amanda Wurlitzer, the Bears’ talented pitcher (the role originated by Tatum O’Neal in the movie) and St. John portrayed Ahmad Abdul Rahim on the series (played by Erin Blunt in the films). The cast of the TV show also included Catherine HIcks, Corey Feldman, and Meeno Peluce.

In the photo, Cast has her arm around St. John, who is smiling and holding a red carnation in his hand. While the actress gave no indication of exactly where or when the picture was taken, when she posted it to Twitter back in 2013, St. John revealed that there was an episode of BAD NEWS BEARS titled “Dance Fever.” “I danced my A&% off,” he joked at the time. And Cast added: “And I was lucky enough to be K’s rehearsal partner.”

As she grew up, Cast went on to star opposite Jason Bateman on the sitcom IT’S YOUR MOVE and had a short stint on NBC sudser SANTA BARBARA before debuting as Nina Webster on Y&R in 1986. And when St. John joined the cast of the CBS soap in 1991 (following his run as Adam Marshall on NBC’s GENERATIONS), he was reunited with his old baseball teammate!

And now we can’t help but wonder if Cast has any more fun photos from their time on THE BAD NEWS BEARS out there to share!
