Gina Tognoni Says Goodbye to THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS
In a surprising turn of events, Gina Tognoni is leaving THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS where she has played the role of Phyllis since August of 2014. “Five years ago, I was blessed to embrace the incredible character of Phyllis Summers Abbott,” she wrote in a statement posted to her social media accounts. “I am beyond grateful for the creative experience that Y&R has given to me as well as the amazing relationships I made with the cast, crew/staff, producers and writers.
“I love my Genoa City family, which made it easy to give 110% every day. My long commutes always went smoothly because I loved where I worked and the people I worked with,” Tognoni continued. “My thanks to Sony Pictures Television and CBS and a special thank you to Y&R viewers for their love and support. I wish Y&R continued success and everything it richly deserves.”
The soap has confirmed that Michelle Stafford, who currently portrays Nina on ABC sudser GENERAL HOSPITAL, is returning to reclaim the role she played from 1994-97 and again from 2000-13, leaving the future of her GH alter ego up in the air as GH had no comment on the casting changes.
