Can Thomas Be Redeemed on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL?
Thomas has reached new levels of depravity this summer on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL, and though his dastardly deeds seem out of character for a member of the Forrester family, executive producer and headwriter Bradley Bell gives his seal of approval to the character’s mean streak!
“I wanted a darker Thomas,” Bell explained to fans earlier this summer at the B&B fan event. The scribe went on to say that with both Bill and Quinn on their very best behavior of late, he needed someone to fill the void in the villainy department. “We needed someone to drive story, and I thought this character of Thomas, with Matthew [Atkinson] playing it, would be just the jolt in the arm we needed.”
For his part, Atkinson jokes that perhaps Bell saw something sinister in him from the get-go. “The reality is, he met me a few years ago and thought, ‘This kid is creepy,’” he explained to fans at the event. “[Bell] is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met, so I can’t believe [he] can write such a dark character!”
Though it would appear that Thomas’ antics of late have reached the point of no return, there are many characters on the show who have committed heinous acts, only to eventually have their reputations restored. Quinn went from kidnapping Liam and trying to kill Deacon to becoming Eric’s respected wife, for example, while Bill continually bounces back from behavior that goes well beyond naughty. Even Thomas’ Aunt Pam found redemption after doctors determined that a brain injury prompted her psychopathic streak years ago. In other words, there’s always hope for Thomas, even if his chances with Hope are over!
