The daytime community mourned when THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS star Kristoff St. John (Neil) died at the age of 52 in his home on Feb. 3 His attorney, Mark Geragos, confirmed the news to USA Today in an E-mail saying: “Sadly, we can confirm.” On March 19, CBS Los Angeles reported that the LA County coroner’s office reported that St. John died from heart disease combined with an accidental alcohol overdose.
St. John has played the popular character of Neil Winters on Y&R since 1991, and received 11 Daytime Emmy Award nominations, taking home the trophy for Outstanding Younger Actor in 1992 as well as Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2008. In addition he had won 10 NAACP Image Awards for his work.
His last social media activity was retweeting a post that said: “Grieving the loss of a child is a process. It begins on the day your child passes, and ends the day the parent joins them.” To which St. John replied: “Never a truer word was spoke. Thanks for posting this.” The actor’s son, Julian St. John, passed away in 2014 while in the care of a mental health facility.
St. John took a leave of absence from Y&R in October of 2017 to deal with some issues he was having at the time, but has since returned to work at the soap and even become engaged to Russian model Kseniya Mikhaleva who he began dating in early 2018. He is survived by ex-wife Mia St. John and their daughter, Paris, as well as ex-wife Allana Nadal and their daughter, Lola. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
At this time, there were no further details released as to a cause of death, so stay tuned as the story continues to develop. The soap has also not revealed their plans for the character of Neil going forward.
