THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS star Eileen Davidson (Ashley) has opened up about her experiences as a survivor of physical abuse.
In a recent episode of THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF BEVERLY HILLS, the actress confessed to her past troubles and expanded on her experiences in her Bravo TV blog in the hopes of helping other people in the same position.
“I consider myself a strong woman,” she writes. “I’ve played strong female characters throughout my acting career. I think most people who know me would describe me that way. Because ‘strong’ doesn’t mean you can’t find yourself in an abusive relationship. It can happen to anyone.
“I know, because I’ve been in two of them,” Davidson adds. “Once when I was a teenager and again in my 20s. Maybe people might say I don’t ‘look like’ or ‘seem like’ the kind of person that this could happen to. The truth is, there is no stereotypical victim.”
The Emmy winner hopes that sharing her own struggle will inspire men and women in similar situations to seek the help they need to save themselves.
“If I can say anything to the many women and men out there who think there’s no way out,” Davidson says, “it would be: You are not alone. You can be strong. You can get help. You can leave. If anyone reading this needs help seeking help, please call the National Domestic Abuse Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).”
