There were also some viewers who found themselves equally confused, and it’s no wonder, as Mickey’s birth was part of the soap’s infamous time jump in November 2019. Back in November 2019, an entire year passed in one day for the residents of Salem. Sarah Horton and Xander Kiriakis were raising a little girl named Mackenzie “Mickey” Horton and Eric Brady questioned who the father of the baby really was. Although Sarah insisted it was Xander, Nicole Walker spilled the beans and told Eric the child was his. When Mackenzie developed a fever, Sarah took her to Boston for treatment with Eric, asking Xander to remain behind in Salem.
However, in January 2020, it was revealed that when Sarah went into labor, she and Adrienne were run off the road by a drunk Maggie Horton (although it later turned out the villainous Orpheus was really responsible for the tragic accident). Adrienne was killed in the crash and Sarah’s baby also died. Victor Kiriakis convinced Xander to swap babies to protect Maggie so he stole Kristen DiMera and Brady Black’s infant daughter to pass off as Sarah’s!
But when Eric and Sarah found they weren’t a bone marrow match for the child they thought was their daughter, Xander had to doctor some test results so Sarah would look like the baby’s mom. But Nicole was determined to uncover the truth and tracked down Dr. Raynor in New York while Brady also had his suspicions after seeing a birthmark on Mickey’s neck. Sarah had accepted Xander’s marriage proposal, but when Eric told Sarah the truth about their daughter, she naturally called it off!
Distraught over discovering her baby had died and she had been raising Kristen and Brady’s daughter, Rachel, Sarah kidnapped the child and ran away to Paris. But after a run-in with Rex Brady, she was convinced to return Rachel to Kristen. Xander struggled to make things up to Sarah but over time she eventually came to forgive him.
Sarah later disappeared and it was revealed that Kristen had abducted her and held her prisoner on an island. At first drugged to believe she was Renee DuMonde, Sarah was then given another dose that left her believing she was a little girl. However, once the antidote was finally administered, Sarah was simply left with a gap in her memory that had her wondering where her daughter, Mickey, was. Xander was reluctant to tell her the truth for fear of losing her again, but Eric sat her down and broke her heart all over again by filling her in on the tragic story.
