DAYS OF OUR LIVES Nominees Reveal What’s on Their Emmy Reels (EXCLUSIVE)

Tags:

This year, the Daytime Emmy Awards changed the rules slightly, instructing actors to submit reels of up to 15 minutes in length containing clips from any episodes aired during the 2018 calendar year. This give the stars the option to focus on one particularly strong episode, highlights from one powerful storyline, or even offer a variety of scenes showing their range. Unfortunately, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is not making those submissions public this year, but we asked some of the DAYS OF OUR LIVES nominees to share what was on their particular reels. Will it be enough to win the gold? We’ll all find out together when the 2019 Daytime Emmys airs on Sunday, May 5!

“I tried to build a reel that would tell the whole arc of the DNR story from Belle’s perspective. I chose scenes with Greg Vaughan (Eric), Drake [Hogestyn, John], Mary Beth [Evans, Kayla], and the bedside scene with Deidre [Hall, Marlena]. I felt it would be the best way to tell the story to voters who may not watch the show on a regular basis.”

Eric Martsolf (Brady) – Outstanding Supporting Actor

“I went with my goodbye to my son. Which a lot of fathers have experienced, and it never gets more heartfelt than that. But in my final submission, I included a scene next to Marlena in which Brady apologizes to her, not knowing whether she’s going to wake up or not, for being such a poor teenager and adolescent toward her. He feels he never gave her the credit she deserved. It was such a simple scene, and it was so quick, I almost had forgotten about it. A couple people had said to me, ‘I really enjoyed that scene because it’s all about regret and wanting to make up for lost time when you seemingly don’t have it.’ So I felt they were scenes that just related to the human experience. And that’s usually what I try to shot for. And what I think soaps in general should try to shoot for.”

Marci Miller (ex-Abigail) – Outstanding Lead Actress

“I submitted the scenes where Abby realizes for the first time that she killed Andre. So the scenes were with Billy [Flynn, ex-Chad]. And I submitted some Gabby scenes with Tyler Christopher (ex-Stefan), and then some scenes where the Gabby character and the Dr. Laura character are having conversations with each other inside of Abby’s head. And then a little tidbit at the end with Deidre Hall, when Abby transitions into Dr. Laura.”

“It was a little different this year. We were able to submit a lot more material, so you were able to kind of tell a little story. So that’s what I chose to try to do. I started with Chad and Stefan had a fight in the stairwell of the DiMera mansion where Stefan is really pushing his buttons and trying to bait him into a fight and it worked. I set it up with that. Then I did a couple of scenes in the abortion clinic where Marci was just fantastic. She really set me up in those scenes. And then I may have used something with Ben from when they were establishing their working relationship. And then I used a lot from Stefan torturing the real Gabi, Camila [Banus], where he had her tied up and he was torturing her. And then I ended it with a really quick monologue tribute to Stefano.”

Kassie DePaiva (Eve) – Outstanding Supporting Actress

“They were scenes with Eric Martsolf, where Brady and Eve go to get married and she calls it off because she finds out that she’s been duped by Brady. Brady and Eve set out to use the other person, but in the meantime, they fell in love. So she got her feelings hurt by Brady. It was the big non-wedding. And then I added two extra scenes with Robert Scott Wilson where she confronts Ben for the first time when he comes back to town.”

Greg Rikaart (Leo) – Outstanding Supporting Actor

Days of Our Lives Leo Sonny Will

“The first scenes that I submitted were the confrontation between Leo, Sonny, and Will. When Leo first got back and he explained how he’s survived and what his objectives were now that he was back. I like those scenes and when you have a clear objective it kind of helps tell the story. ANd in my experience, that can make a reel more compelling. Those scenes had some anger, so just to show something different, the second set of scenes were from the wedding and were more lighthearted and silly.”
