GENERAL HOSPITAL Teen Stars Head Off to College!

Tags:

As the school year winds down for the GENERAL HOSPITAL characters attending Port Charles High, college looms on the horizon for Josslyn, Trina, and Cameron. But the GH teens aren’t alone as they stand on the precipice of adulthood: so are their portrayers! Like the characters they play in Port Charles, actors Eden McCoy (Josslyn), Sydney Mikayla (Trina), and William Lipton (Cameron) are all about to graduate from high school and head off to college. But will their college plans impact their futures on the soap?

The short answer is, hopefully not. Soaps In Depth tracked down where the three young adults will be continuing their studies come fall, and the good news is that they will all be local to Los Angeles. And being local to Los Angeles means that they may be able to continue on with their jobs at the soap, which tapes at The Prospect Studios, located in the city’s Los Feliz neighborhood.

So where will McCoy, Mikayla, and Lipton be attending college? McCoy actually made her higher education decision more than three years ago, when she was just a high school freshman! The actress, who plays competitive beach volleyball on a private club team, was actually recruited by the University of Southern California to join their athletic team. “I am so grateful and honored to share that I have verbally committed to play beach volleyball for the Women of Troy!” the teen shared in March 2018. (The Women of Troy is the nickname for the USC Trojans’ women’s sports divisions.) McCoy’s Instagram bio says that she is a USC beach volleyball player graduating in the class of 2025, and her Twitter profile boasts that she is a USC Trojan. The actress recently participated in her class ring ceremony and is just weeks away from receiving her diploma!

Lipton will be joining his pal at USC, where he will be attending the renowned Thornton School of Music. (Kate Grahn, the daughter of Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) is a USC Thornton alum, and the GH star’s fiancé, Richard Smith, is a professor at the top-notch music school.) Lipton shared the news last month during an interview with ABC News Bay Area anchor Kristen Sze while promoting his original song, “We Weren’t Done With This Yet.” Lipton, who lives in a San Francisco suburb in Northern California, was dressed in a USC Thornton hoodie for the interview and shared that he was headed down to the southern part of the state. “I am so happy to say that I will be going to L.A.,” he shared. “I’m going to go to the University of Southern California next year for my college studies. And it is just an absolute dream come true. I remember when I was a little kid, I did a project at the campus, and I was like, “Man, it would be so amazing to go there.” And now here I am, in a USC Thornton School of Music hoodie and I am just beyond excited for what’s to come.”

While McCoy and Lipton both have their high school graduation ceremonies ahead of them, Mikayla already has her diploma in hand! The actress actually graduated in January (and at the top of her class!) and was mulling over 14 college acceptances. On May 1, commonly known among high schoolers as college acceptance day, Mikayla announced on Instagram that she decided to attend the University of California, Los Angeles. “Bruin-bound for the next four years!” she wrote, posting a series of photos taken on the UCLA campus. Donning a tee and baseball cap bearing the university’s logo, Mikayla posed next to the massive, two-ton Bruin Bear Statue, the college’s mascot, as well as the Shapiro Fountain and the Powell Library.

But even though USC and UCLA are collegiate rivals, McCoy promised her GH bestie that they would never let their respective schools’ competitiveness come between them. When McCoy congratulated her pal on Instagram, Mikayla wrote back, “Guess we’re rivals now.” And McCoy was quick to reply “Never” — adding significant emojis: gold and blue hearts to represent UCLA, cardinal red and gold hearts to denote USC, a winky face, and a handshake.

Whew! We glad to hear that McCoy and Mikayla don’t plan to let a generations-old rivalry come between their friendship. And the even better news is that both young women and Lipton will be located in Los Angeles for the foreseeable future because we are sure that there are plenty more coming-of-age stories that GH can tell with this talented trio!
