GH Alum Sydney Mikayla Reveals Her Exciting New Project!

Tags:

Fans were disappointed when Sydney Mikayla (ex-Trina) chose to leave GENERAL HOSPITAL to focus on college, but performing is still in her blood and she recently announced her participation in the Bruinettes, Westwood’s premiere collegiate danceline team!

“I am so grateful to announce that the first ever danceline team at UCLA will be coming to you for the 2023-24 season,” Mikayla shared on Instagram. “As the co-founder of this incredible organization, I’ve been so blessed to help create such a beautiful space for dancers to thrive, live in their authenticity, and grow as creatives and leaders. I’m so excited for y’all to see what’s in store, and I’m grateful to God that these dreams have become a reality. Stay tuned!”

Mikayla co-founded UCLA’s first danceline team with Daisa Watkins. “We’re so excited because we have so, so much in store,” Mikayla enthused in an Instagram video introducing the Bruinettes. “We founded the Bruinettes because we wanted to bring this beautiful style to our campus.” Kalé Woods and Kayla Marie Jackson are the coaches and the Bruinettes Instagram page has been introducing the dancers one by one.

Mikayla joined the cast of GH in February 2019 when she took over the role of Trina Robinson and earned two Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Young Performer during her time with the soap. Unfortunately, after beginning classes at UCLA in the fall of 2021 and balancing school with work, she ultimately opted to exit the show so she could focus full-time on her studies with a double major in African-American Studies and English.

While Mikayla was unable to balance her schedule at GH with school, she has found time to do some acting while at UCLA, doing voice work for animated series like Netflix’s DEW DROP DIARIES and Paramount+’s TRANSFORMERS: EARTHSPARK.

Please join us in wishing Mikayla all the best with her new danceline team, and we can’t wait to see some videos of their performances!
