Camryn Grimes Recalls Cassie’s Tragic Death on Y&R (EXCLUSIVE)
It’s been 14 years since Camryn Grimes (Mariah) played the tragic death scene of her first THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS character, Cassie, but she still remembers that day. “I couldn’t get through that scene without crying! I was on the deathbed, trying to force my tears out and to not breathe, because I was supposed to be dead!” she recalled to Soaps In Depth. “Of course, when they yelled cut, everybody on the set was clapping and crying. I’m 14 years old and sobbing. My parents were there and sobbing. I’m like, ‘I just want to go home!’ It was a sad, sad day. It was a tough day — the hardest scene I’ve ever had to do, hands down!”
Even after leaving the soap, Grimes says she always felt a great deal of loyalty to Y&R. “I was honored to play Cassie from conception to death, and that’s something that is so rare in the soap opera world,” she shares with a smile. “I’ve always said, even if I won an Oscar tomorrow and Y&R was like, ‘Hey, do you want to come back?’ I would in a heartbeat! I feel so honored to be part of this show that I will always come back!”
