The Devil Returns to DAYS OF OUR LIVES!

Halloween isn’t until next month but the new promo video for DAYS OF OUR LIVES promises thrills and chills are already on their way! “Something wicked this way comes,” teased the soap’s headwriter, Ron Carlivati, on Twitter, later adding, “The Devil made us do it…”

In the promo video, the exterior of the Brady Pub is lit with moody purple and orange lighting as the camera moves up from the ground to show the sign and the two light posts outside that briefly turn from flames to slitted orange eyes for a brief instant. Then, over a close-up of the Brady’s Pub sign, as leaves blow in the chilly wind, deep, ominous laughter can be heard.

That laughter will be instantly recognizable to longtime fans of the NBC sudser as that of a possessed Marlena! In the mid-90s, DAYS garnered a lot of attention for then-headwriter James E. Reilly’s tale of demonic possession, though the controversial plot did divide critics and fans. In the storyline, Stefano DiMera kidnapped Marlena and drugged her, leaving her open to demonic possession. The kind doctor’s entire personality changed and she began doing horrible things all over Salem until John — who was a priest at the time — performed an exorcism to free her.

Will Marlena be possessed again? Or might the forces of evil have someone else in mind this time around? Is this a new storyline or just the annual special Halloween episode? You’ll just have to stay tuned to DAYS to see!
