GH’s Cassandra James Debuts Her First Film!
She’s already a ground-breaking, talented actress, but Cassandra James can now add “screenwriter” and “executive producer” to her resumé! The actress, who plays General Hospital’s Terry, shared the exciting news on Instagram that the first film she has conceptualized, a short titled Claude, made its world premiere!
“Leading up to this moment has been a whirlwind, so eye-opening and wonderfully inspiring,” James wrote on Instagram leading up to her movie’s April 28 premiere at the Atlanta Film Festival. “I’ve learned so much about the business of making a film a reality, how to produce and promote ‘the product,’ and through it all, I have such a continued and overwhelming sense of gratitude for every single person who helped make this moment possible. Thank you.”
James, who stars as Her, previously shared that Claude is autobiographical: The story is told through the eyes of Her’s childhood stuffed bunny, Claude, who watches his owner navigate her turbulent love life as an adult trans woman who has reconnected with a former partner. The movie also stars Sia Zami as Him, and was directed by James’ GH colleague, Finola Hughes (Anna).
“At the heart of this project is a very vulnerable truth,” James continued, baring a bit of her soul in her post. “And for the first time, people I don’t know will see this film. It’s emotional to realize that from this moment on, this film is officially greater than me.”
It was important to James, as a trans advocate and artist, to shed light on the transfeminine experience in sharing this story. “Claude is a gift to all the survivors, to the girls like us, to the lonely and open-hearted,” the actress confessed. “It was so healing being held through this journey, and I hope this film helps hold you too. I see you, I believe you, I love you. And so does Claude.”
