Jeff Kober Says Goodbye to GENERAL HOSPITAL

Cyrus’ reign of terror has come to an end — for now! — as Jeff Kober leaves GENERAL HOSPITAL. The actor’s stint on the soap wrapped up in the June 16 episode as his alter ego was shipped off to a federal penitentiary in the midwest to pay for his litany of crimes. “It was such a treat for me,” Kober told Soap Opera Digest of his run as the GH baddie. “You know, this was a three-month job that turned into a year-and-a-half.”

Kober made his debut as Cyrus Renault back in February 2020 and earned a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor during his run. Introduced as a drug runner challenging Sonny’s authority in Port Charles, Cyrus soon expanded his reach all over town turning to kidnapping and murder to maintain his power. And that was from behind bars! Once he held Jordan’s son hostage to force her to claim she’d falsified evidence to put him in prison, he was finally released and free to go wild!

As a free man, Cyrus’ next step was to try and establish himself as a “legitimate businessman” in Port Charles, and even donated enough money to General Hospital to secure himself a position as chairman of the board! But even as he ran roughshod over the hospital, firing longtime staff members and manipulating Julian into blowing up the Floating Rib to take out Jason, Cyrus was also revealed to have a family — he and attorney Martin Grey were brothers, and Laura Webber Collins was their sister!

However, even as GH began to give Cyrus background and layers to offer some depth to the character, the soap suddenly had him go off the deep end, turning violent and initiating a hostage situation that was never going to end well for him. Now that he’s recovered from his gunshot wounds and been shipped off to prison, it would seem Cyrus’ evil schemes have come to a close. Of course, you’ll recall that he was able to cause plenty of trouble in Port Charles from behind bars in the beginning, so who knows what might be in the future?

Regardless of whether or not he is invited back to the soap for another stint in the future, Kober is delighted with his time on GH as the villain fans loved to hate. “Thank you for hating me in such a lovely fashion,” he told viewers. “And for watching closely enough that when we found out I had mother issues, it made it harder for you to hate me.”
