Preview the GENERAL HOSPITAL Primetime Special!

We’re pretty sure every GENERAL HOSPITAL fan has it set to record on your DVR or marked on your calendar so you can tune in live, but just in case you still might need a reminder — The primetime special GENERAL HOSPITAL: 60 YEARS OF STARS AND STORYTELLING premieres on Thursday, Jan. 4, at 10 p.m. ET!

GH stars past and present will come together to share memories of the past six decades of drama in Port Charles, and that includes some special guests like DANCING WITH THE STARS winner Val Chmerkovskiy, The dancing pro made a cameo on the soap back in 2012, but also partnered Kelly Monaco (Sam) for the DANCING WITH THE STARS All-Star season that same year.  “I put my dancing shoes back on for the GH primetime special!” Monaco teased, sharing a photo of her with Chmerkovskiy and the soap’s executive producer Frank Valentini on Instagram.

To help promote the primetime special celebrating GH’s 60th anniversary, ABC has released some promo videos giving fans a taste of some of the fun to be had. In the first, they asked when and where some of the stars started watching the soap. “I was 11 years old,” Laura Wright (Carly) revealed. “And I was watching right before Luke and Laura got married. I was obsessed. I used to get all the soap magazines. I was an ABC soap watcher.” After Cameron Mathison (Drew) said that he was watching from a small suburb of Toronto, Lynn Herring (Lucy) topped him by declaring she was watching GH from Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico! “My dad was a fighter pilot,” she smiled.

When asked who they like to watch on GH, Lisa LoCicero (Olivia) confessed: “I like watching Robert Scorpio who I’ve been in love with since I was seven.” (Which got a great laugh out of Rena Sofer (Lois)!) And after Sofer insisted she would watch Finola Hughes (Anna) read the phone book, Hughes herself professed her love for Kin Shriner (Scott) and Lynn Herring (Lucy). “Because I know them,” she said, “and, you know, Kin really is like that! And Lynn just sort of copes and it makes me laugh when I see them.”

Then stars and fans were asked what their dream storylines might be and it’s kind of hard to top what Josh Swickard (Chase) came up with! “I would arrest a bad guy and there would be a burning building,” he joked, “and my shirt somehow fell off and I was carrying Maurice Benard (Sonny).” Listening in, Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) chuckled and declared: “Oh, that would be amazing!”

So make sure you tune in to watch GENERAL HOSPITAL: 60 YEARS OF STARS AND STORYTELLING in primetime, and you might want to set your DVR anyway in case you want to save it for posterity. Though it will also be streaming on Hulu starting on Friday, so you can always watch the special celebration again there!
