Doug Davidson Opens Up About His Health Scare

A recent bout of COVID landed THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS alum Doug Davidson (ex-Paul) in the emergency department at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital! As the actor explained on Instagram, he first fell ill after returning from Punta Cana, where he and Eric Martsolf (Brady, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) had joined his best bud, Rick Springfield (ex-Noah, GENERAL HOSPITAL), for the singer’s “Rick Springfield + Friends Getaway” at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in early October.

On October 13, the Y&R alum revealed that he had the coronavirus, sharing a photo of a positive at-home test. “It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt,” Davidson captioned the image, adding a shocked-face emoji.

Unfortunately, things took a serious turn later that weekend. “As some of you are aware, I came back from the Dominican Republic with COVID,” he shared in a follow-up post. “After three days, I had significant trouble breathing.”

Thankfully, Davidson received top-notch care from his local first responders, as well as the staff at the hospital. “I’d like to give a shout-out to these fine agencies, who were exceptional on every level,” he praised, first thanking the 911 operator who took his call. “She was absolutely fantastic.”

Davidson also noted that he received remarkable care from the Carpenteria-Summerland Fire Protection District crew that responded to his call and the medical staff who treated him at Cottage Hospital’s emergency department. “Hats off to all of them. They were incredible in every regard,” he wrote. “Thank you so much!”

In response to the actor’s post, his former TV wife, Lauralee Bell (Christine, Y&R), chimed in to express her thanks to those who cared for her friend during his health crisis. “Thanks to all of them who helped you!” she commented. “Thank God for first responders. So appreciated!”

Several other friends from the daytime world also commented with get-well wishes for Davidson. Martsolf weighed in that he was “so sorry” to hear that his colleague had gotten sick after their trip, while Don Diamont (Bill, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) commended, “Thank God for the great care on every level! Get well!” Writing that she hoped Davidson was feeling better, Tracey Bregman (Lauren) added, “So sorry you had such a hard time. Sending much love.”

Please join us in wishing Davidson a speedy recovery!
