Y&R Alum Jason Canela Joins the Cast of THE ROOKIE!

Tags:

Congratulations to THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS alum Jason Canela (ex-Arturo), who is joining the cast of ABC crime drama THE ROOKIE in its third season! “So grateful to do what I love,” he declared on Instagram when the news broke. “This journey is filled with so many good and not-so-good moments but it’s these moments that truly make it all worth it! I will continue to work and hopefully, I can nurture my craft along the way so that these unforgettable blessings continue to come my way!”

Canela will be playing the recurring role of Cesar Madrigal, the son of criminal royalty who is in line to take over his father’s empire. So he will definitely be tangling with fellow soap vet Nathan Fillion (Joey, ONE LIFE TO LIVE), who stars as John Nolan in the series. THE ROOKIE’s third season began back in January, and Canela’s character is slated to make his debut in the episode titled “Brave Heart,” scheduled to air on Sunday, May 2 in its regular time slot of 10 p.m. ET.

After appearances in telenovelas DONDE ESTA ELISA and COSITA LINDA as well as American series like MISSING and PITCH, Canela made his daytime debut on Y&R in February 2018. Unfortunately, the character of Arturo Rosales was written out in the spring of 2019, although Canela reprised the role in August 2019 for Lola’s wedding to Kyle and again in December 2020 to attend Rey’s New Year’s Eve nuptials with Sharon.

Canela’s personal life is also going great, as the actor popped the question to girlfriend Janaina in January 2020 and the couple quietly tied the knot later that year during the pandemic in a small courthouse ceremony due to her family being unable to travel from Brazil.

So be sure to watch THE ROOKIE every Sunday night at 10 p.m. ET to see what kind of dastardly villainy Canela’s character gets up to!
