Melissa Ordway’s Family Celebrates World Adoption Day

November 9, 2020, was World Adoption Day, and THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS star Melissa Ordway (Abby) joined many others in celebrating it by posing for a photo with her family with smiley faces drawn on their hands and sharing it on social media. ”Happy World Adoption Day!” she enthused. “It’s one of our family’s favorite days!”

She then went on to share the famous — but unattributed — quote: “I was cherished. I grew in their hearts, I was the missing piece, I was loved, I was adopted.”

“These words could not be more true,” Ordway declared. ‘We loved you before we knew you, even when there was just a hope for you, we loved you. Olivia, we love you more than words. My kind, beautiful, sweet baby girl. I’m so proud and honored to be your mom.”

Ordway and her husband, Justin Gaston (ex-Ben, DAYS OF OUR LIVES; ex-Chance, Y&R) have two daughters, and their oldest one, six-year-old Olivia, was adopted back in 2017. The couple celebrates her “Coronation Day” on Feb. 27, which is when the couple finalized the adoption and made Olivia officially their daughter. The Gastons (who celebrated their 10th anniversary back in September) are also proud parents to their younger daughter, Sophie, who will be turning five in December.

“Surrounded by our family, the judge made Olivia officially a Gaston (even though she already was in our heart),” Ordway said of that special day five years ago. “We cannot thank God enough for blessing our family with the most beautiful, smart, fun, little ray of sunshine.”

Such a beautiful message and such a beautiful family!
