Richard Burgi Opens up About His Divorce

You can’t always believe everything you read on the internet. THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS alum Richard Burgi (ex-Ashland) discovered that recently and decided to set the record straight in a heartfelt Instagram post.

“A friend of mine informed me that I am still listed as married on IMDb and Wikipedia, etc,” Burgi revealed. “It has been a very trying year and a half. After losing a great job for something that had nothing to do with my work as an artist, and then, with much difficulty, my second marriage ended.”

The veteran actor joined the cast of Y&R as the villainous Ashland Locke back in March 2021, but he was let go in January 2022 because he unwittingly violated the soap’s COVID protocols. The role was recast with GUIDING LIGHT veteran Robert Newman, who continued telling Ashland’s story until the character met a violent end.

Burgi married his first wife, Lori Kahn, in 1995, and they have two sons, Jack and Samuel. After their divorce, he married Liliana Lopez in February 2012. But now that union has also sadly come to an end.

“Divorce is painful and devastating but the good Lord has a way of leading you to things you need and away from things that you don’t,” Burgi declared thoughtfully. “The loss of a job, relationship, or any other important thing is like a death and takes time, good friends, and family or nurturing people and places to get through.”

He then suggested to anyone going through the same kinds of experiences a couple of places that helped him to recenter his life and move past the darkness. “Oniya in Montana is one of those places,” Burgi said. “The staff, the facility, the natural elements, as well as the horses are truly a transformational experience.

“Also check out LeahKalish.com,” he added. “She and her husband, Bruce, offer another amazing life-affirming experience for those looking for growth, healing, and change. With these and more, I am in a great place and grateful for this beautiful life… Onward!”
