Y&R’s Michael Damian Previews His New Movie! (EXCLUSIVE)

Pack your bags and prepare for a getaway to the Emerald Isle in the new romantic comedy Irish Wish, premiering on Netflix on Friday, March 15! Produced by THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS star Michael Damian and directed by his wife, Janeen Damian, the film is their second with star Lindsay Lohan. In this movie, Lohan plays Maddie, who begrudgingly agrees to be a bridesmaid at her best friend’s wedding in Ireland. The catch is that the groom is the love of Maddie’s life and when she makes a wish for true love, she finds herself in an alternate reality where she’s the bride-to-be! Be careful what you wish for!

While Y&R fans won’t actually see Damian on screen in Irish Wish, they will hear him! In addition to producing the film, he provided a song for the soundtrack! “It’s called ‘Wild Irish Heart,’” the actor/musician/writer/producer/director told Soaps In Depth. “My brothers and I, we wrote this song a ways back, and then all of a sudden it was, ‘Wait a minute, we’re making a movie called Irish Wish…’ It was a total coincidence.

“I haven’t really done a track like this before,” Damian continued. “It’s got the live acoustics and some Irish fiddle… got some great Irish people singing on it and performing on it with me. There’s a scene in a pub called Scruffy Murphys, and it plays throughout the whole scene [and] actually carries over to the following scene as well.”

Collaborating with his wife on Irish Wish wasn’t the only family connection for Damian when they shot the entire film in Ireland. “I’m Italian and Irish,” he explained, “and so it was wonderful to make a movie in my homeland. Actually, my cousin, who’s the chief of the County Mayo, he helped us out a great deal with a lot of the logistical things that we needed to accomplish to make this movie. Because it’s quite a big production.”

Although making the movie was hard work, spending the summer in Ireland wasn’t without its charms! “It was really great,” Damian enthused. “People were wonderful. Locations were insane. It’s so green, your eyes have to re-calibrate. They’re like, ‘Oh yeah, well, they turn up the color.’ No, we had to turn down the color! I could shots were so green, they’re like, ‘I think they’re going to think this is fake.’”

Damian also enjoyed the opportunity to work closely with his wife again. “Janine is amazing,” he declared. “She’s brilliant. Just such a talent. We always try to motivate each other to always just be our best and create something memorable and just constantly try to always stay creative and keep the inspirational juices flowing.”
