DAYS OF OUR LIVES’ Eric Temporarily Recast with Jason Gerhardt
Don’t freak out when you see a new Eric on DAYS OF OUR LIVES because it’s only temporary!
Soap Opera Digest is reporting that Greg Vaughan will be recast for a handful of episodes in August because he was unavailable to finish out the season before the soap went on break for the holidays at the end of 2022. (Yes, DAYS tapes that far in advance!)
The role will be temporarily played by Jason Gerhardt, who some soap fans will remember from his 2007-08 run as Cooper Barrett on GENERAL HOSPITAL. Since then, the actor has gone on to appear in primetime series like MELISSA & JOEY, VEGAS, BONES, CSI, MISTRESSES, CHICAGO MED, and NCIS as well as movies like Widow Detective, Inconceivable, and Beyond the Darkness.
The character of Eric Brady was born back in 1984 and played by a series of child actors before Roman and Marlena’s son was SORASed into a teen and Jensen Ackles took over the role in 1997. Following his departure from DAYS in 2000, the character wasn’t seen again until 2012, when Vaughan stepped into Eric’s shoes.
With Eric currently involved in a major front-burner storyline with Nicole, Sloan, unborn babies, and tampered DNA tests, it would be very difficult to write around his absence. So look for Gerhardt to step in and play out some dramatic scenes until Vaughan returns.
