Get ready to finally find out what happened to Holly because Emma Samms is coming back to GENERAL HOSPITAL! Back in 2020, viewers only saw Holly on a security monitor being held captive in a room because the actress was stuck at home in England as she contracted COVID. And because she then suffered the debilitating effects of Long COVID, she was unable to return to continue telling the story… until now!
Samms will be back to reprise her role (barring preemptions) in the episode scheduled to air on Wednesday, Oct. 19. “I can’t believe that it’s been 40 years since I first appeared on GH and that, once again, I get to play the wonderful character of Holly Sutton,” she said in a statement. “No one is more interested in what’s happened to her since we saw her two years ago, being held captive by a mysterious villain, than me!”
Executive producer Frank Valentini is also delighted that the actress is finally able to come back to the soap at long last. “I am thrilled the wonderful Emma Samms will be returning to the canvas in October so we can continue telling Holly’s story and the fans can finally see what happened after we learned she was alive and being held hostage.”
Samms first joined the cast of GH back in 1982 and played Holly Sutton until 1985 when she left to take the role of Fallon Carrington on primetime sudser DYNASTY. She then moved over to the show’s spinoff, THE COLBYS until its cancelation in 1987, at which point she returned to DYNASTY until its end in 1989. She continued to appear in film and television, returning to Port Charles in 1992 for a run that lasted until 1993 and allowed her to also play Holly’s lookalike sister, Paloma.
In 2006, Samms returned to GH for the soap’s 11,000th episode and again for a few weeks in the spring of that year. So also made appearances in 2012, 2013, and in 2015 as part of Anthony Geary’s final storyline as Luke Spencer. The soap created a new storyline in 2020 where Holly was presumed dead and when Robert went to Monaco looking for answers, he, unfortunately, was led to believe it even though she was secretly being held captive!
Fans have been waiting for two years for GH to pick up that particular storyline thread and reveal what’s really going on, and now that Samms is feeling well enough to return, we’ll finally get some answers. So stay tuned!
