GH’s Emma Samms Says She’s Playing the “True” Holly This Time
Longtime fans were delighted to see Emma Samms finally able to reprise her role of Holly on GENERAL HOSPITAL, especially knowing the challenges she’s facing trying to work while still dealing with the ongoing effects of Long COVID. They’re also thrilled to see Holly back sharing the screen with Robert, just about as much as Samms was to be working with Tristan Rogers again.
“It’s been fantastic,” she told Soap Opera Digest of reconnecting with her co-star and former real-life love. Although she was surprised that fans were still invested in the pair at all! “I mean, we’re old now!” she laughed. “I think it’s a bit like what Joan Collins did on DYNASTY, which was showing that a woman of a certain age could still have a love life and be interesting. Hopefully, Tristan and I are forging that course for the oldies on GH!”
Samms joined the cast of GH back in 1982 and after leaving in 1985, has returned for various appearances throughout the ‘90s, ‘00s, and ‘10s. And while some of those storylines weren’t big hits with fans, the actress believes that this time will be different. “I’m sure the audience has some trepidation because over the years, written by different people with different producers, you know, things have gone awry a little bit on occasion,” she admitted. “But this time, it feels like the writers have somehow captured what the show was like back in the day, with the adventure and the excitement and the pace and the humor.
“This time feels the closest to what I was doing on the show when I started than anything I’ve done since, and it is such a joy I can’t tell you,” Samms continued. “It feels like Holly, like the true character. Obviously, there are a lot of ups and downs in just the short arc that I’m there for, and I just hope the audience hangs in there! I don’t think anybody who remembers the good old days is going to be disappointed.”
Of course, Holly and Robert’s joyful reunion has been soured by the fact that she’s clearly keeping secrets from him, but that’s all part of the adventure and the excitement that Samms was talking about! So stay tuned to GH to see Holly’s newest storyline continue to unfold and see if you agree!
