Who Is Roy on GENERAL HOSPITAL?
If you think Curtis’ physical therapist on GENERAL HOSPITAL looks familiar, that might be because the actor has appeared on the soap before, but in a different role! As first reported by Soap Opera Digest, Mykel Shannon Jenkins is now playing Roy, but he previously appeared in Port Charles as Officer Byron Murphy.
Viewers might also recognize Jenkins as the winner of the first season of the SOAPnet reality series I WANNA BE A SOAP STAR back in 2004. The prize was a 13-week contract on GH, and in 2004 he debuted in the role of crooked cop Byron Murphy. Following the initial contract, Jenkins’ run was extended to finish out the storyline. After shooting Carly’s father, John Durant, Byron framed Jesse Beaudry for the crime and he went on the run with Maxie Jones before ultimately returning to Port Charles and revealing the truth that Byron had set him up.
Following his run on GH, Jenkins then appeared on CBS sudser THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL as Detective Charlie Baker, making recurring appearances from 2007 until 2012. During his career, the actor also made guest appearances on primetime series like CHARMED, CSI: MIAMI, UGLY BETTY, and NCIS: LOS ANGELES. From 2017-21, Jenkins played Derrick Taylor in the streaming comedy series THE RICH & THE RUTHLESS from THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS alum Victoria Rowell (ex-Dru). Fans can also see him in TV movies like A Royal Christmas Ball, Chain of Death, and The Gods and The Gods 2: The Dark Side.
Roy’s job as Curtis Ashford’s physical therapist isn’t going to be an easy one as Curtis has withdrawn into himself and basically given up after being paralyzed by a gunshot wound. But perhaps between Roy and Curtis’ wife, Portia Robinson Ashford, they can convince Curtis to fight and adjust to his new life. Well, that is unless Portia’s eye is drawn to the handsome therapist… that could cause a whole new wave of problems!
Stay tuned to see what happens!
