Sydney Mikayla Says Goodbye to GENERAL HOSPITAL

Tags:

March 17 marked Sydney Mikayla’s last episode as Trina on GENERAL HOSPITAL and after it aired, the young actress took to Instagram to say a heartfelt goodbye to the soap and express her gratitude to everyone in the cast and crew. In addition to a quick video of the crew applauding her after she wrapped her final scene on GH, Mikayla shared some photos she’d snapped over the years with her co-stars.

“I wanted to wait until my last episode premiered to give a proper goodbye,” she declared, “but I want to thank everyone who made my journey as magical as it was. I have some castmates to thank first. William Lipton (Cameron), I will always miss goofing off on set with you. You have incredible energy and your amazing songwriting will always put a smile on my face.

“Eden McCoy (Josslyn), you never fail to inspire me,” Mikayla continued. “You are such a talent to work beside and I couldn’t have asked for a better on-screen bestie. Nicholas Alexander Chavez, you were an amazing first on-screen love interest. For this to be your first acting job, I think you’ve got a major career ahead.” Then she added with a wink, “You have to say you knew me when!”

Mikayla also had kind words for her GH rival, Avery Kristen Pohl (Esme)! “The sweetest and kindest person ever!” she exclaimed. “Although I haven’t known you for very long, you’ve told me your goals, and your brilliance is going to change the world. I mean that.”

Next up was her TV mother and mother-figure. “Brook Kerr (Portia), your words of wisdom have been heeded, and I’ve learned to take advantage of and be grateful for everything you’ve taught me along the way,” Mikayla said. “Maura West (Ava), I will miss you so. You are a gem, and I’m so grateful to have worked with you.”

The young star also singled out Briana Nicole Henry (ex-Jordan), Tajh Bellow (TJ), Donnell Turner (Curtis), Vernee Watson (Stella), Real Andrews (Taggert), and Asante Jones (ex-Taggert). “Thank you for showing me how to continue to represent our community well,” she expressed.

Mikayla also thanked makeup artist Alie Fleck and hairstylist Nikki Malone for always being there for her. “And to the cast and crew I was not able to tag (I’m running out of characters!), thank you, thank you, thank you!” she declared. “Each of you has made me feel so welcome and at home at GH. Thank you to the writers, producers, creators, and everyone who took a chance and gave me the opportunity of a lifetime. [Mom,] you told me to always keep Trina grounded, real, and black. I hope I made you proud.

“And to the fans, thank you for trusting me,” Mikayla concluded. “Thank you for the memes, the fan edits, the cartoons, the fan art, and the conspiracy theories. Your love for the show makes us actors love doing what we do. It was an honor to be your Trina. I hope I’ve made you proud. Go kill it, Tabyana Ali! Farewell.”

Although fans were heartbroken when Mikayla announced her decision to leave GH in order to focus on her education, Trina’s story will continue as the soap has recast the role with newcomer Tabyana Ali, who will begin airing very soon. Stay tuned to see what happens next!
