Katherine Kelly Lang Opens up About the New Brooke on B&B

After so many years of moving from one man to another, fans were surprised when Brooke decided to take a step back and focus on herself on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL. She’s always been an independent thinker, but for a change, she’s now living independently, too. And portrayer Katherine Kelly Lang couldn’t be more excited.

“I do like that Brooke is coming into her own,” the actress confided to Soap Opera Digest. “She is finally realizing, ‘What am I doing? Why am I wasting all this time? What’s going on?’ And she has to think about herself at some point. Otherwise, she just gets dragged along in this same old destructive cycle. She realized that and stood up for herself and said, ‘This is about me now.’”

Lang has been playing Brooke Logan since B&B’s very first episode in March 1987 and has seen many men come and go from her life over the years, with Ridge being her true love for much of the time. When Taylor returned to the canvas, the Brooke/Ridge/Taylor love triangle was revived once more… but only briefly! To everyone’s surprise — especially Brooke’s! — the blonde opted not to take Ridge back after he chose not to marry Taylor, instead deciding to try experiencing life as a happily single woman.

“I remember reading that script and thinking, ‘This is really mature,’” Lang explained. “It was great that it was written that way. She wasn’t trying to get back at Ridge or stick it to him. Brooke realized what she was doing and she was not going to do that anymore. She stood up and said, ‘This is how it is.’

“It was like the lightbulb went off in her head — finally — and it turned on brightly,” she continued. “She very clearly explained to Ridge, ‘This is how I feel. This is what you’re doing. This is what we should do, and that’s the way it is.’ I really liked it. I love that she was understanding the whole thing and the way she handled herself and the situation.” 

When Ridge comes home, might Brooke be tempted to rekindle things between them? And don’t forget, there’s always Deacon, who is still holding a torch for her. “Right now, Brooke is in an ‘everything fresh’ mode and she doesn’t want to look back,” Lang declared. “She wants to go forward but who knows?”
