What Happened to Keemo on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS

It’s been a while since Keemo was on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, and he hadn’t even been mentioned in ages. But longtime fans of the soap from that era still remember Jack’s son. However, if you’re not one of them — or if you are and just want to revisit his history in Genoa City — we’ve got you covered. Keemo Abbott was first introduced in July 1994, played by actor Philip Moon until his departure in April 1996.

Christine Blair befriended local restaurant owner Luan Volien, and when the woman was shot by robbers, she begged Christine to locate her long-lost son. With the help of Paul Williams, Christine found Keemo living in the jungles of Vietnam as an outcast. They also figured out that Jack Abbott was Keemo’s father, from an affair he’d had with Luan while serving with the military in Vietnam.

Christine helped reunite Jack and Luan, and he learned of his son. But when Keemo arrived in Genoa City, he resented his parents for abandoning him. He moved in with his mother and sister, Mai, and was surprised to learn about his father. After hearing his mother’s story, Keemo finally accepted Jack in his life.

Jack’s fiancée, Mari Jo Mason, wasn’t thrilled about Luan’s return to his life, and when Jack eventually dumped her and married Luan, Mari Jo quickly turned her sights on Keemo. They became romantically involved, but he soon tired of her mind games and dumped her after she hired a prostitute to sleep with him. When Luan died of a terminal disease, Keemo was initially angry at Jack for keeping the illness from him but eventually forgave his father.

Following their mother’s death, Keemo and Mai returned to Vietnam, much to Jack’s disappointment. Although Keemo did contact Jack later to warn him about getting involved with Mari Jo again.

In 2022, Jack started receiving mysterious text messages urging him to come to Los Angeles and was stunned when Phyllis traced the messages to an address and the name Hao Nguyen. He told her that Luan’s maiden name was Nguyen and Hao was her father’s name. Jack also admitted to Phyllis that he had been trying to contact Keemo via E-mail but he had rebuffed his attempts. Further investigation led them to discover that Keemo had taken his grandfather’s name and had recently passed away in Los Angeles. Visiting the address, Jack found memorabilia belonging to Keemo and learned that his son had a daughter, Allie!

Stay tuned to Y&R to see how Keemo continues to affect life in Genoa City.
