GUIDING LIGHT’s Final Episode Aired 14 Years Ago — Look Back at Some Classic Moments

Tags:

Fans of the long-running soap GUIDING LIGHT thought it was a bad April Fool’s joke when CBS announced on April 1, 2009, that the legendary daytime drama was coming to an end. But sadly the news was all too true, and the light was finally extinguished forever on Sept. 18, 2009, when GL aired its final episode.

For 57 years, GL chronicled the lives of the Lewises, Spauldings, Bauers, Reardons, Coopers, and more. Audiences thrilled to the adventures and romances of supercouples like Josh and Reva, Danny and Michelle, and Beth and Phillip. The series began on radio in 1937, where it ran for 19 years before moving to television in 1952. In 1967, it was first broadcast in color, and it expanded from 15 minutes to 30 minutes in 1968. Finally, in 1977, GL was extended to run for a full hour.

Relive GL’s glory days with the gallery below featuring classic photos from the show’s run featuring fan favorites Kim Zimmer (Reva), Robert Newman (Josh), Laura Wright (Cassie), Maeve Kinkead (Vanessa), and more!
