Soap fans know Cady McClain (Jennifer, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) is an award-winning actress from her work in daytime television, and some might be aware of her move behind the scenes to produce and direct, or even about her writing, painting, or singing. But did you know she was also a model? “Thanks to Joyce Young for finding and sharing this image with me from a campaign I did was 15!” McClain enthused on Instagram, posting a shot of her ad for Maybelline Shine Free Extra Thickening Mascara.
“Yes, that was in the ‘80s, Virginia,” she teased. “I was beyond excited to be chosen for this! Thank you, forever Maybelline. You still make the best mascara ever!”
McClain is best known for playing roles like Dixie Cooney on ALL MY CHILDREN, Rosanna Cabot on AS THE WORLD TURNS, Kelly Andrews on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, and her current gig as the new Jennifer Horton on DAYS. But her career began back when she was a child, appearing in a Band-Aid commercial at the age of 9. In addition to her Maybelline print ad, McClain also appeared in TV commercials for that brand as well as Mattel, Barbie, Kool-Aid, and many, many others.
In addition to her commercial work, McClain also appeared in film like 1982’s My Favorite Year, playing Peter O’Toole’s daughter, Tess. Also in the early ‘80s, she played the recurring role of Erin Sheinfeld on the acclaimed NBC primetime drama ST. ELSEWHERE. Of course, after some other primetime television work, McClain joined the cast of AMC in 1988 as Dixie, and the rest was history!
