Daytime Emmys 2018: Review the Reels Submitted for Supporting Actor

Tags:

The Daytime Emmy Awards are only a few weeks away, and soap fans are waiting to see who will take home the gold this year. But to prepare for the big night, they can check out the official Emmy reels submitted in the Outstanding Supporting Actor category. Wally Kurth (Ned, GENERAL HOSPITAL), Chandler Massey (Will, DAYS OF OUR LIVES), Anthony Montgomery (Andre, GH), Greg Rikaart (Kevin, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) and Greg Vaughan (Eric, DAYS) have compiled highlights of their best work this year, but only one can win. Who will it be?

Wally Kurth (Ned, GH)

Kurth’s reel opens with Ned making an emotional plea to Olivia why they should get married, then takes a turn as Ned argues with Michael about ELQ business. Next are some lovely scenes between mother and son as Ned and Tracy have a powerful conversation about the Quartermaine family. And the final scene blends comedy with drama as Ned tries to reassure Olivia on their wedding night.

Chandler Massey (Will, DAYS)

With Will’s return from the dead with amnesia, Massey had lots of juicy material to choose from. He opted to include a heart-to-heart with Marlena about accepting who he really is, the sequence where he was horrified that Sami would try to recreate his murder to restore his memories, Will reconnecting with Belle, and then the scene where Will opened up to Paul about being attracted to him.

Anthony Montgomery (Andre, GH)

Montgomery opens his reel with the breakup scene where Andre tries to maintain his dignity as he ends things with Jordan. This is followed by Franco visiting Andre in jail which turns into an impromptu therapy session as the psychiatrist offers to help him with Liz. And it concludes with Andre opening up to Anna about the unexpected reason for his involvement in the crazy scheme to transplant Jason’s memories into Drew’s mind.

Greg Rikaart (Kevin, Y&R)

Rikkart stars off with Kevin’s heartfelt goodbye to Chloe at her funeral and then segues into his trying to explain to his mother why he’s taking his daughter and leaving everyone behind to make a fresh start, followed by the actual tearful farewell.

Greg Vaughan (Eric, DAYS)

Vaughn’s powerful reel begins with Eric explaining to Nicole that he loves her too much to even be around her, followed by Eric breaking down as he begs Nicole to stay with him which turns into an angry back and forth as she tries to break his heart. Next, Jennifer offers a shoulder to cry on as Eric tearfully opens up about everything he’s been through, and finally, Eric angrily confronting Brady about what he did to Nicole.

Now that you’ve seen all the submissions, you have everything the Blue Ribbon Panel has to make the same decision. But which actor delivered the most outstanding performance this year? You’ll have to tune in on Sunday, April 29, and find out!
