Stefan may be currently getting mixed up with Ava on DAYS OF OUR LIVES, but Gabi is never far from his thoughts, even if she’s languishing in prison right now for a murder she didn’t commit (due to Camila Banus’ decision to exit the soap).

“I mean, honestly, at the end of the day, it leaves it very open-ended for her return… for plot points to develop,” Brandon Barash (Stefan) confided to Soap Opera Digest. “It’s very smart of the writers to dangle that proverbial carrot.”

After joining DAYS in 2010, Banus has come and gone from the soap a few times over the years, although her 2023 exit felt more permanent than the previous ones. Still, Barash is hopeful that “Stabi” will be reunited one day. “I’m hoping for a return in any form,” he declared, “be it Camila coming back or a recast.”

Banus herself was actually a recast, taking over the part from Gabriela Rodriguez after she originated the part of Gabi in 2009. But if DAYS chooses to recast the role again, there’s one thing that is crucially important for the new actress to have.

“There has to be chemistry,” Barash declares. “Chemistry is one of the most important elements of that relationship. These two characters have a carnal lust for each other, but they love each other deeply. I don’t want to speak for Gabi, but certainly, for Stefan, he’s never really known that kind of love was even possible. He loves that woman with every molecule and fiber of his being. So yes, chemistry is very important.”

Hopefully, one day, “Stabi” fans will see Stefan and Gabi reunited, whether it’s with Banus reprising her role again or a new actress stepping into her shoes. Keep checking back here at SoapsInDepth.com for future updates!
