Steve Burton Announces His Exit From DAYS OF OUR LIVES!

Tags:

It was big news when Steve Burton joined the cast of DAYS OF OUR LIVES to reprise his role of Harris Michaels, and now the actor has announced his departure from the Peacock soap.

“Wow,” Burton exclaimed in a video posted to the Daily Drama YouTube channel. “Well, I just shot my final scenes here at DAYS OF OUR LIVES and I just want to say thank you so much to the cast and to the crew, to DAYS, to everybody. It’s been amazing. I can’t believe it’s been a year already. So thank you so much. To the fans, it’s just… I’m always so full of gratitude. So… thank you. Stay tuned.”

After getting his big break on the primetime sitcom OUT OF THIS WORLD in 1987, Burton made his daytime debut as Harris Michaels in 1988. Following that brief run, the actor became a soap star when he joined the cast of GENERAL HOSPITAL as Jason Quartermaine, later renamed Jason Morgan, in 1991. He also took home the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 1998.

On DAYS, Burton found himself paired with former GH castmate Tamara Braun (ex-Carly; now Ava).XJJohnson/jpistudios.com

Burton left GH in 2012 and as 2013 began, took on the newly-created role of Dylan McAvoy on CBS sudser THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, winning another Supporting Actor Daytime Emmy in 2017. He then returned to GH in 2017 to reclaim his role of Jason, but was let go from the soap in November 2021 for refusing to comply with Disney/ABC’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate at the time.

In April 2022, he reprised his role of Harris Michaels for the second series of DAYS spinoff BEYOND SALEM and in March 2023, began appearing on DAYS proper, signing a one-year contract. Now, because the Peacock soap tapes episodes many months in advance, Burton will continue to air well into the spring of 2024.

Of course, now that Burton is available for work again, let the rampant fan speculation about a return to GH begin… now! (And obviously, SoapsInDepth.com will let you know as soon as there’s anything to report on that front, so keep checking back!)
