Cameron Mathison Shares His Mother’s Cancer Battle
Two years ago, Cameron Mathison (Drew, GENERAL HOSPITAL) revealed that he had kidney cancer and underwent surgery to remove the tumor. And as he underwent his two-year checkup, the actor shared a bittersweet memory from that time. “I love this photo of my mom supporting me through my cancer journey back in 2019,” he wrote. “Four months later, she would be diagnosed with brain cancer and she is still fighting hard.”
Thankfully, Mathison himself received good news this time around. “Seems fitting I’m in Florida visiting her when I got the news that my two-year cancer checkup came back totally clear. Thank you for all the well wishes… I can’t tell you how much it means.
“My doctor said, ‘Whatever you’re doing, it’s working because your kidney numbers are the best they’ve been!’” Mathison reported before thanking physique and health coach Allen Cress for his help in achieving his goals.
Mathison became a daytime star when he played Ryan Lavery on ALL MY CHILDREN from 1998-2011 and following that soap’s cancellation, he went on to star in TV movies and work as a host on shows like GOOD MORNING AMERICA, ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, and HOPE AND FAMILY. Then, in 2021, the Daytime Emmy nominee returned to soaps when he joined the cast of GH as the new Drew Cain.
We’re happy to hear that Mathison’s checkup went well and he remains cancer-free, and we’re sure everyone will join us in wishing the same for his mother, Loretta. “Now it’s your turn, Mom, to beat the odds,” he concluded. “I love you so much and I’m here for you like you were for me.”
