GH’s Kelly Thiebaud Reveals Why Britt Can’t Get Over Jason
By all appearances, GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Britt has it all: She’s a successful doctor, she has a supportive (albeit dysfunctional!) family, and a ride-or-die bestie. But the one thing that the GH co-chief-of-staff seems to be missing in her life is a romantic partner. Although Britt has tried to meet someone through Society Setups, she just can’t seem to get over her short-lived relationship with Jason.
Although the pair was only together a brief time before he married Carly — and then shortly afterward was presumed dead when he was trapped in a collapsed tunnel on Cassadine Island — Britt is still hung up on what could have been with Jason. In a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, the doctor’s portrayer, Kelly Thiebaud, explained that a large part of her alter ego’s feelings for Jason stem from his presence in her life “through that terrible time” when she was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease.
“I think with anyone, when you’re going through something so heavy and life-threatening, that whoever’s there by your side, it means so much to you to have them,” Thiebaud mused. “Especially for a character like Britt, who hasn’t really had that, even from family. She hasn’t really had someone be so genuine and so loving and protective and supportive of her.”
Jason and Britt had only slept together one time before he ended things and got engaged to Carly in a move to protect the Corinthos family when Sonny was presumed dead. That was nine months ago. “Even though it was short-lived, the impact of that [relationship] meant so much to her, and that is what has caused this grief and kind of not being able to move on,” the actress shared.
Thiebaud added that the “fear” of knowing she has a terminal illness is also holding Britt back when it comes to finding a new man. “How do you open up your life to someone? How do you fall in love with someone knowing what’s waiting for you down the road?” she pondered. “Because it is such an ugly disease, what happens to a person, she’s also thinking about that. They’re going to see this whole other side of her that she can’t control. It’s very fear-based.”
Yet while the relationship with Jason was “important” and “meaningful” to Britt, Thiebaud doesn’t think her alter ego will be pining forever. “I don’t think she’s, like, lighting candles and having a meditative moment of reembrace of the one time she slept with Jason!” she laughed. “I don’t think that’s happening! I wouldn’t say Britt is pathetic by any means. I just think she fell in love, and it was a very whirlwind, meaningful, genuine experience and she just feels like it’s never going to happen again.”
Something tells us that a certain skydiver named Cody with whom Britt can’t stop butting heads just may prove her wrong!
