Katelyn MacMullen Speaks Out on Willow’s “Tricky” Dilemma

Tags:

It seems as if time is running out for Willow on GENERAL HOSPITAL. Not only was her long-lost biological mother, Nina, not a bone marrow match, but Terry wasn’t able to harvest enough viable stem cells from baby Amelia’s cord blood to do a successful transplant. The beleaguered heroine’s situation is looking direr by the day, which has led many GH viewers to wonder if it all could have been avoided had Willow just told Michael about her leukemia diagnosis from the start!

On a recent episode of Soap Opera Digest’s podcast, Katelyn MacMullen weighed in on the drama surrounding Willow and explained how she tried to justify her character’s questionable behavior. “I’m still in a place where I’m like, ‘Wow, I don’t know what you do in that situation,’” she confessed. “And obviously, Willow has made choices that other people agree with or don’t agree with. It’s such a tough position to be in.”

As Willow was walking around the hospital, sneaking off to have conversations about her health with pal T.J. while keeping the truth from Michael, MacMullen admitted that there were moments where she wished she could have talked some sense into her alter ego. “There’s definitely times where I’m like, ‘No! Do this! Take care of yourself! Do that!’” MacMullen shared.

But MacMullen understood Willow’s desire to protect her unborn child first and foremost — even at the detriment of her own health — by getting past the first-trimester mark before undergoing treatment for her leukemia. “It’s such a hard situation to be in,” the actress said. “So, I try to have some compassion for being at a loss, or not knowing what to do, or making the wrong choice. Or the right choice under bad circumstances. It’s tricky.”

With Willow’s leukemia being at an advanced stage 4, she only has a matter of weeks left to live unless a viable bone marrow donor is found. But, MacMullen warned, viewers shouldn’t start preparing to say goodbye to Willow just yet! “You’re not going to know what’s going to happen,” she teased, “and there’s going to be some surprises.”
