GH’s Nancy Lee Grahn Previews Her Upcoming Memoir!

Tags:

Sometimes, when an actor or actress celebrates their yearly work anniversary with a soap opera, their fans send them flowers, sweet treats, or other gifts to observe the occasion. But when Nancy Lee Grahn marked the start of another year playing GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Alexis on Sept. 26, she gave her supporters a gift instead: a sneak peek at her upcoming memoir!

“Today I have completed my 26th year and will begin my 27th on my beloved General Hospital,” the Daytime Emmy winner announced in posts shared on her social media pages. “I leave you with an excerpt from my book which will be released in the next year.”

The excerpt, as shared by Grahn on Facebook, is the actress’ hilarious explanation of the character she’s played for over a quarter of a century on GH. Written in Grahn’s trademark snark, she hilariously recaps Alexis’ history with nuggets starting with Natasha’s muddy parentage as the bastard child of Mikkos Cassadine. “My mother, Kristen Bergman, was a famous opera singer whose throat was slit by my father’s wife, Helena. Unhappy with the turn of events, I hurled my frail 75-year-old stepmother off a five-hundred-foot parapet slamming her onto jagged rock only for her to walk away unscathed,” Grahn said.

Grahn also detailed Alexis and Sonny’s love affair, while throwing shade at the former ABC executives and head writer who tried to put the kibosh on the couple. “I then fell in love with my deviant client, world-renowned mobster Sonny Corinthos, and we became very popular until the writer who was fired and then came back decided that ratings didn’t trump his own bias for a different pairing and took a sledgehammer to it. But before he could, we had a lot of fun together including being mowed down seven times by slow-motion gunfire, usually accompanied by classical or Christmas music, depending on the season.”

The excerpt goes on to recap Alexis’ unconventional path to motherhood, parading around town as her dead sister, skulking around the Q mansion as the butler, beating cancer, going to jail, and more. “Somehow,” read the snippet from Grahn’s memoir, “I’m still alive.”

At the end of the post, Grahn took a moment to thank viewers for their unwavering support over the years, which has allowed her to do what she loves: bring Alexis to life. “Always so grateful to have an ongoing contract, my own parking space, and people I’ve never met who come up to me regularly and tell me how much younger I look in person,” she quipped. “It’s a gift that I have been able to and still get to do what I love to do for such a gloriously long time.

“Without the support from all of you, this day would not be what it is,” Grahn concluded. “As always, I see you, and thank you.”
