Rebecca Herbst Opens up About Her Relationship With Kelly Monaco

Liz and Sam haven’t always seen eye to eye on GENERAL HOSPITAL, and many fans have taken their side in the “Liason” versus “JaSam” battle, but Rebecca Herbst insists that she and co-star Kelly Monaco are very close in real life. And she even wishes Elizabeth and Sam could be closer on the soap!

“Kelly and I have been friends for a gazillion years and she and I work really well together,” Herbst told Soap Opera Digest. “Outside of being personal friends — I absolutely love her and we just have a really nice, easy, respectful working relationship.”

So while some GH fans think that Jason’s — and Drew’s — two exes should be bitter enemies, Herbst believes they should be gal pals and support each other through whatever respective drama they’re enduring on the show. “Sam and Liz have so many layers to their friendship,” Herbst mused. “They’ve bounced back and forth from being friends to enemies to friends, but I think they really get each other and really understand what the other is going through.”

Unfortunately, while soap actors may have some say in how to portray their characters, it’s usually up to the writers and producers to create the storylines they play. “If I had my druthers,” Herbst declared, “I would definitely keep Sam and Liz more in each others’ orbits, for sure.”

We’d love to see that, too. Guess we’ll all just have to keep watching GH to see what happens next!
