Ever since the reruns started, fans have been wondering when is GENERAL HOSPITAL coming back with new episodes? Well, based on some recent social media activity from the soap’s stars, it could be very soon, indeed! Back at the end of June, there were reports that the show was hoping to resume production in mid-July, and they seem to have been able to pull it off.
On July 21, Josh Swickard (Chase) shared on Instagram the first hint that GH was coming back. “As I head back to work — and to a workplace that looks very different from before — I’m reflecting on how I spent my quarantine and what I learned.” And on July 23, Marc Anthony Samuel (Felix) shared a snap of himself posing on a couch wearing a green face mask he captioned “Workplace moda.” That means “fashion” in Spanish, and while he wasn’t immediately clear where he was working, his response to a fan asking if he was back at GH indicated that’s exactly where he was!
After suspending production in March due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, GH extended the life of the episodes that it had already taped by editing in flashbacks to split single episodes into two separate hours. They also began showing “Flashback Friday” episodes so there were only four new episodes each week. ABC aired the last new episode of GH on May 21, and have been broadcasting classic shows in the weeks since.
On July 13, GH rewound to the end of April to begin re-airing the episodes that were broadcast right before they left off on a pretty big cliffhanger. This schedule would have the May 21 episode airing on Friday, July 31, meaning that the first all-new episode of GH could potentially air on Monday, Aug. 3. However, as with everything in the world right now, this is all subject to change and there has been no official word from ABC regarding GH’s exact return date. But it’s hope for fans that the action in Port Charles should resume very soon! Stay tuned for updates!
