As soon as it was announced that Steve Burton would be returning to GENERAL HOSPITAL as Jason during the soap’s 60th anniversary primetime special, the fans began speculating fast and furious about how the character would return from the dead and how he would be connected to the recent attacks on Sonny and the other mob bosses in Port Charles. Of course, Burton himself warns that there are plenty of surprises in the pipeline, so don’t be so sure your theory is correct!

“I love the speculation,” Steve Burton confided to Soap Opera Digest. “I love how invested people are in this and they’ll be dying on their sword that they’re right! I happened to talk to a fan and she was like, ‘So this is what it is. You’re doing this, then this happens.’ I go, ‘Hey, guess what? None of that is right! So, watch March 4th!’”

With Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte having taken over as headwriters at GH, anything is possible. And Burton admitted that he’s never been too involved in the storylines, at least not in the broad strokes. “Listen, I’ve never been a guy to dictate story,” he said. “I’ve never been somebody going, ‘Hey, I can’t or won’t do this.’ If there was anything I needed, it was always on the day [that particular episode was shot], like, ‘Hey, this is not really working, can we change something?’

“[During that process] there was a headwriter switch,” Burton continued. “So apparently there was a whole different story planned and then the headwriter switch happened and they kind of rebooted [the story arc]. I know Patrick a little bit, but I really know Elizabeth Korte. There’s no one in the building that loves that show, knows the history of the character, and is invested in it 100 percent than Elizabeth. There has ever been a more deserved promotion, ever. Once I knew that she was [one of the headwriters], I was like, ‘Oh, this is gonna be good! I cannot wait.’ And it has been exactly that. Everything has been amazing.”

Burton is excited to be back at GH and hopes the fans enjoy the story that’s coming their way! “From what I’ve shot, the scenes I’ve shot… they’re not going to be disappointed,” he promises.
