William Lipton Explains Why He Left GENERAL HOSPITAL

When Cameron announced he’d received a scholarship to attend Stanford, fans immediately wondered if he was actually going to be leaving Port Charles. And now we know that he has as portrayer William Lipton has taken a break from GENERAL HOSPITAL to focus on his own studies.

“As you know, I am a student in college and sometimes schedule-juggling can get very different for everyone,” Lipton explained to Soap Opera Digest. “[So I’ll be] taking a couple months off, waiting for school to end [for the year] and rejoining the cast in the summer.”

Like former castmate Sydney Mikayla (ex-Trina), Lipton is stepping away from the daily grind of daytime drama to focus on his education… although it’s not all work and no play. “School has been enough of a load to just kind of focus on for a bit,” he admitted. “I’ve been playing some more shows with my band, which has been fun, and I’ve had more time to rehearse with them.

“But I told my mom, ‘Maybe I’ll take some wood shop classes,’ just pick up some really random skill,” he added with a laugh.

Unlike Mikayla, however, Lipton plans to return to GH, and is looking forward to seeing what the writers have planned for when Cameron comes home to Port Charles in the summer. The young actor, who has been playing Cam since 2018, also appreciates the outpouring of love and support from fans when they thought he was leaving permanently.

“I started [on GH] when I was a sophomore in high school and now I’m a sophomore in college,” Lipton mused. “I’m so thankful for everyone’s concern and the love they’ve given me. I loved working there and I still love working there. It will be super-interesting to see what’s gone on in Port Charles upon Cameron’s return!”
