Kate Linder Dishes Her Exciting New Job on Y&R (EXCLUSIVE)

Esther was surprised when Sharon asked her to take over running Crimson Lights on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS and so was portrayer Kate Linder, who told Soaps In Depth she didn’t get a heads up from the soap before learning her alter ego was getting a new job!

“I knew I was working and I went, ‘Well, this is great,’” the actress revealed. “And then I read the script and I got so excited. Fabulous! So I was happy to see all of that.”

Of course, fans shouldn’t worry that Esther is going to try to take over and put her own stamp on the coffee shop. “No, it’s an institution,” Linder promised. “Crimson Lights has been there for a very long time. I don’t think Esther has plans to change any of that.”

With Esther famous for being a bit of a busybody, Crimson Lights is the perfect place for the character to get mixed up in all kinds of Genoa City drama. “Because the lines of people coming in and out of there,” Linder smiled. “That way, Esther can see everyone.

“And she can cause problems!” she added with a laugh. “As only Esther can do! Maybe not meaning to… well, she never means to. But you never know what could happen. So, the possibilities, I think, are endless. So I love that. I really do. And we see a different side of her, which is great as well. I think she’s in a great place now and I know she’s happy there. I’m happy she’s happy!”

The Y&R vet also loves her character’s ever-expanding resume, with running Crimson Lights and working as a receptionist at Chancellor/Winters recently added to it. “Hey, she could just work everywhere!” Linder laughed. “If you have a job to do, ask Esther! Who you gonna call? Not Ghostbusters, but Esther! Esther’ll do it!”
