Amanda’s dream of finding her birth family on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS turned into a nightmare as she discovered they harbored dark secrets. And now that she knows that her grandfather, Sutton, was responsible for the death of her father, the attorney isn’t about to let him get away with it! “Knowing Amanda’s character, she’s gonna try and do things the right way and try to go the legal way,” portrayer Mishael Morgan confided to Soaps In Depth. “Try to sit down with the DA and expose everything that she has and see if that will lead to him possibly going on trial for it.
“But I think Amanda’s in this place where if that doesn’t work, she’ll figure out some other ways to make him pay,” the actress continued with a smile. “She has very high scruples, so other than breaking the law and going against her morals, I think she’s gonna do everything else in her power to make sure that he pays for what he did.”
However, while Amanda’s grandfather has committed unforgivable actions, Morgan feels that her alter ego still may be able to forge a relationship with her mother, Naya. “I think it’s possible,” she mused. “I think that with everything that Amanda’s gone through in her life, her ability to forgive is a little bigger than a normal person. She’s learned to forgive, to move on, and to be this highly functioning person.
“But she’s not a pushover,” Morgan quickly added. “So I think that it’s gonna have to feel wholehearted. Her mother wanting to have a relationship with her is going to have to feel authentic. Her wanting to make up for some of the lies and some of the things that she’s put her through, it’s gonna have to happen in order for her to feel like she can move forward with her. But I do think it’s possible. I think Amanda really wants that, so if Naya’s willing to give her that, she’ll be open to it for sure.”
Thankfully, after some initial friction, the one family member Amanda has really been able to rely on has been her sister, Imani. “I think it’s beautiful because it really came from a place of resentment in the beginning,” Morgan mused. “Because she really saw Imani as a person who took away her life in a way. They were at odds in the very beginning and then they kind of bonded. For her, she’s holding onto that relationship very dearly. Ideally, she would want a relationship with her mother but I think that Amanda is okay with settling even if it’s just a relationship with her sister, Imani. But she’s still holding out hope for her mom. I think everybody has a soft spot for their mom.”
