Tammin Sursok Celebrates One Year Sober

Oct. 3 was a monumental day for THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS alum Tammin Sursok (ex-Colleen): The actress passed the one-year mark since she stopped drinking alcohol. Sursok confessed the news in an inspirational post shared to her Instagram page, explaining what her sobriety journey has been like over the past 12 months.
“If you followed me for a long time, you know that I’ve teetered on the idea of “sober curious” for a long time now,” the former Y&R star wrote in a lengthy caption. “My relationship with alcohol hasn’t really been that complicated. I’ve never felt like I had to have it or that I had an issue, but I did feel like in stressful moments and anxious times I would crave a glass of wine to be able to calm down my limbic system.”
Sursok confessed that eventually, she got to the point where she was “counting down the days” until the weekend so she could have an alcoholic beverage just to feel “normal.” Since she struggles with low dopamine, the actress and content creator explained, the dopamine boost she got from imbibing helped her feel relaxed — but only for a short time until it dropped, leaving her “feeling way worse than before I had a drink.”

While Sursok was worried that living a sober life would dampen her enjoyment of life or make her no longer fit in while socializing, she was happy to learn that was not at all the case. “Not only have I felt more joy, more happiness, more connection, but I’ve felt it in such a greater way,” she admitted.
In a Reel video set to Olivia Rodrigo’s hit tune “Vampire,” Susrok shared snippets of the adventures she’s experienced with her family over the past year that showed just how much fun she’s had in her 365 days of sober living, like playing with her daughters, enjoying concerts and fireworks, hugging an elephant, working out, cuddling her new puppy, and more.
“I’m not sure what my journey will look like, but this definitely feels like I’m on the right path,” she concluded, inviting her followers to reach out if they had any questions about making the choice for themselves. “This has been an awesome year and I’m so excited for the next one to come!”
