Laura Wright Celebrates 15 Years as Carly — Relive Her GH Debut!

Tags:

On Nov. 4, 2005, the role of Carly on GENERAL HOSPITAL was taken over by Laura Wright which means that she is celebrating 15 years playing the iconic soap character! “15 years ago today!” the actress enthused on Instagram. “Oh, it’s been one hell of a ride! Big love to all the GH fans who welcomed me and support Carly’s World — I love her so much. I’m so grateful to play in Port Charles with the cast and crew of GH. They truly are my family.”

Wright reposted a clip shared by a fan who celebrated her 15th anniversary by posting her very first  scene on the soap! Max was making his way through the train wreck following the crash and didn’t see a woman sitting on the ground in the shadows off to the side. As the camera zooms in on her, she removes her hat to reveal that gorgeous mane of blonde hair as the announcer informs fans that the role of Carly is now being played by Laura Wright.

The character of Carly Corinthos was introduced back in 1996 and was played by Sarah Joy Brown until 2001 when Tamara Braun stepped into her shoes. In 2005, the role was recast again with Jennifer Bransford, but only for a short time before Wright took over later in the year.

Wright had made her daytime debut back in 1991 playing Allison “Ally” Rescott Bowman on ABC sudser LOVING, moving with some of the cast to the spinoff THE CITY for a couple years after LOVING was canceled in 1995. In 1997, Wright moved over to CBS Daytime, originating the role of Cassie Layne Winslow on GUIDING LIGHT. She remained with that show until 2005 when she went back to ABC to take over as the newest Carly. During her time on GH, Wright has been nominated six times for Daytime Emmy Awards and took home the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in 2011.

In the hashtags at the end of her celebratory Instagram post, Wright added “#15morebaby” at the end, and we couldn’t agree more! Congratulations on 15 years of amazing performances in Port Charles and here’s to 15 years more — at least!
