GENERAL HOSPITAL Actor Don Dolan Dead at 84

Veteran actor Don Dolan died at the age of 84 on Sept. 22, 2020. Although appearing in numerous films and television programs throughout his career, soap fans will remember him best for playing Guy Lewis on GENERAL HOSPITAL from 1985-92.

Sergeant Guy Lewis was introduced as the commanding officer of the Port Charles Police Department’s Police Academy and did not approve of unorthodox officer Frisco Jones. He was promoted to captain and worked for Anna Devane for a time before being promoted to chief of police in 1987 after her resignation. Guy was also acting police commissioner for a bit in the early ‘90s when Robert Scorpio faked his death to solve a crime and later needed to help his brother, Mac. Dolan’s last appearance on GH was in 1992 when Guy was seen leading the PCPD funeral for Robert and Anna when they were presumed dead.

Originally from Staten Island, Dolan was originally a forest ranger until his first wife, Corrinne, urged him to pursue singing and acting, then divorced him when he ventured out on his new career. He then met dancer Janet Woodworth, who became his second wife as he found success in films like FM and The Philadelphia Experiment as well as numerous primetime shows throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s such as DUKES OF HAZZARD, DIFF’RENT STROKES, HILL STREET BLUES, FALCON CREST, THE FACTS OF LIFE, QUANTUM LEAP, and BEVERLY HILLS 90210.

After leaving L.A. with his wife to live in Oregon, Dolan continued to act in community theater and touring with choral groups around the world. At 65, he decided to travel America by car and wrote several books about his travels which included visiting all but four of the national parks and running the Boston Marathon. Dolan is survived by his wife, Janet, his sister, Darlene Willman, his three children, Mark Dolan, Lynn Noland, Pam Padgett, and his grandson, Zachary Noland.
