Susan Lucci Honors Her Late Husband, Helmut, on His Birthday

Tags:

Grieving the loss of a loved one is an emotional rollercoaster, with certain days being harder to navigate than others — like birthdays, for example. On Oct. 10, daytime icon Susan Lucci (Erica, ALL MY CHILDREN) exposed her vulnerable side while remembering her late husband, Helmut Huber, on what would have been his 86th birthday. “Happy Birthday, Handsome,” the actress wrote, sharing a photo of the love of her life looking dapper in a suit and tie and smiling brightly for the camera.

The photo was one of two posts the Daytime Emmy winner made in honor of Huber’s second heavenly birthday. Lucci’s other tribute to her husband was a poignant quote about moving on after the death of a loved one from All The Things Joni, a designer and grief awareness content creator.

“Anticipating another year without you in it feels like loss all over again,” read the All The Things Joni quote that Lucci shared. “I miss you. I just wish you were here. But, you’re not here and that is my reality. Although that reality persuades me to give up, I choose not to. It’s so tough to know that the one thing that you would want for me (to be happy) is also the hardest thing to do without you here. I will honor your memory and keep going forward, even if it’s one single step at a time. I have to believe that you’re looking down on me and cheering me on. I will try my hardest to live a life that would make you proud. I will try to live for us both.”

On March 28, 2022, Huber passed away peacefully on Long Island, New York, at the age of 84. While Lucci’s soap opera alter ego was famously (or infamously?) married 10 times, the actress married Huber in 1969 and they created a wonderful life together — both professionally with him as her manager and personally as they raised their two children, Liza and Andreas, together.

“Helmut’s passing is a tremendous loss for all who knew and loved him. He was an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, and friend,” a statement from Lucci’s publicist, Jessica Sciacchitano, said after he died. “The family kindly asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult time.”

Please join us in sending some extra love to Lucci on this particular date, when her grief and missing her love seem to hit a bit harder than other days.
