Cameron Mathison Reports to Work at GENERAL HOSPITAL!

Tags:

It seems like it’s been a year and a day since GENERAL HOSPITAL announced that ALL MY CHILDREN veteran Cameron Mathison (Ryan) had been hired to play a mysterious role on the soap. Okay, so the exciting casting news was announced in early April, just as Mathison’s Hallmark Channel talk show, HOME & FAMILY, came to an end. But before Mathison could report to the GH set, he had to jet off to Canada to film a new Hannah Swensen movie for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries opposite Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS OF OUR LIVES).

But finally — finally! — Mathison has reported for duty in Port Charles! “Here we goooooooo!!!” he wrote on Instagram on June 2, sharing a selfie taken at the GH set — and showing a particularly scruffy look! “See you soon Port Charles.”

While Mathison is supposed to make his GH debut before the summer ends, there has yet to be an official announcement as to who the Daytime Emmy nominee will be playing. Of course, the actor knows, but he’s been sworn to secrecy! “I cannot say a word,” he told co-stars Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) and Steve Burton (Jason) during an appearance on their That’s Awesome! podcast in mid-May. “But I’m thrilled. I’m thrilled.”

But back to Mathison’s selfie from the GH studio. In the pic, the actor is sporting a rather scraggly beard and there’s a noticeable cut on the bridge of his nose. Might that be a clue as to who he could be playing? Say, Drew Cain, who has been presumed dead ever since his plane went down in September 2019?

That would certainly explain the secrecy surrounding Mathison’s GH role, but chances are that viewers won’t know who his character is until the actor makes his first on-screen appearance. Regardless of who he’s playing, however, Mathison’s already received a warm welcome from Finola Hughes (Anna), with whom he worked in New York City while she was playing Alex on AMC. “We’ve had some beautiful additions to our ensemble cast in the last several years, but you, my friend, are one I hold very dear,” she wrote.
