GH’s Ryan Carnes Stars in ‘Cupid for Christmas’
Are you a GENERAL HOSPITAL fan who misses seeing Ryan Carnes on the soap playing Lucas? Well, you’re in luck because now you can enjoy the talented actor playing the role of Charlie in the new holiday romantic comedy Cupid for Christmas, currently streaming on Hulu! “Had an absolute blast making this movie with everyone involved,” Carnes enthused on Instagram. “Even broke my toe the first day of shooting. But so what! It was fun!”
Cupid for Christmas combines two holidays in one as Cupid, played by Richard Kind, decides he wants to retire and hand over his bow to his protégé, the well-meaning but completely hapless Ruby, played by Melanie Stone. In order for her to prove she’s deserving of taking over as Cupid, Ruby is tasked with finding love for the most romantically hopeless person on Earth before midnight on Christmas Eve. Naturally, that guy is Charlie, played by Carnes, and things… don’t go according to plan!
“We were one of the first US film productions back in action last summer,” Carnes shared. “And as such, the challenges were great, but the enthusiasm and commitment were greater. We did it!”
Carnes became a fan-favorite when he joined the cast of GH back in 2004 as the ninth actor to play Lucas Jones on the ABC soap. After he left in 2005, the role was recast with Ben Hogysten, but Carnes returned again in 2014 to step back into the doctor’s shoes. Unfortunately, in 2020, the character was recast yet again, with Matt Trudeau.
During his first time away from GH, Carnes enjoyed a recurring role as Justin on the primetime sudser DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, and appeared in two episodes of the popular British sci-fi series DOCTOR WHO. He could also be seen starring as the title character in the 2009 SyFy Channel mini-series The Phantom. More recently, Carnes has appeared in the films Red Handed, Acceleration, and Psycho Sister-In-Law.
