Laura Wright Reveals How She Deals With Online Haters

Actress Laura Wright has been a soap star since 1991 when she joined the cast of LOVING as Ally. But the internet and social media didn’t really start to become a thing until she was playing Cassie on GUIDING LIGHT. And since taking over as Carly on GENERAL HOSPITAL, the Daytime Emmy winner has become very active on social media, interacting with her fans. However, she’s also well aware of how nasty things can get online.

“I grew up watching soaps and there were times when I screamed and yelled and threw things at the TV but that was the fun of it,” Wright said during an interview for Eldredge ATL. “That passion, that excitement, that anger. I still get that way when I watch HOUSE OF DRAGONS and all of my other shows. I love it.”

However, there is one line that she won’t cross, and she wishes that soap fans wouldn’t cross as well. “But I don’t attack the actors,” Wright declared. “For me, that’s a huge issue. If you have a problem with your favorites, I get it. But everyone, from writers, producers, directors, and actors, everyone is showing up and doing the best they can. Everybody”

Following Sonny’s time in Nixon Falls as “Mike” where the amnesiac fell in love with Nina, GH fans have been vehemently divided between the longtime “CarSon” fans and the new “Sona” supporters. But Wright has repeatedly defended co-star Cynthia Watros (Nina) from online haters, particularly when one took things a little too far.

“There are tons of Sonny/Nina fans, too,” Wright admitted. “It’s all over the spectrum and it’s wonderful. I just think personally attacking any actor in any way is absolutely uncalled for. Have your passion for the character all day long but if you start attacking the actors? That’s unacceptable. And I have no problem blocking you.”
