That Was Brighton Hertford (B.J.) Playing the Reporter on GENERAL HOSPITAL!
If you felt like the reporter on GENERAL HOSPITAL seemed familiar but couldn’t figure out why, there’s a very good reason for that. The actress who played AP reporter Angela Brighton in the Jan. 10 episode has been on the soap before, but back when she was a little girl! That was Brighton Hertford, who used to play Tony and Bobbie’s daughter, B.J. Jones!
Longtime GH fans will never forget the storyline where seven-year-old B.J. was left brain-dead after a car accident and Maxie received her cousin’s heart in a life-saving transplant. The scene of Tony listening to his daughter’s heart beating in little Maxie’s chest became instantly iconic.
After appearing on GH from 1988 to 1991, Hertford went on to appear in episodes of television series like COACH, THE JEFF FOXWORTHY SHOW, DAWSON’S CREEK, 7TH HEAVEN, NYPD BLUE, and EVERWOOD. She could also be seen in films like Leave It to Beaver, The Parent Trap, and Return to Halloweentown.
According to her bio on the Salt Lake Acting Company website, Hertford has also appeared in numerous stage productions including The Crucible, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Macbeth as well as working full-time as an education technology consultant.
It was a delightful surprise to see the actress who played Bobbie’s adopted daughter as a child return to the soap as an adult in a new role so she could be part of the memorial service paying tribute to the beloved character and her portrayer, Jacklyn Zeman.
The AP reporter was doing a story on Bobbie’s work with an organization rescuing women from human trafficking, which sent Carly and Felicia on a mission to help the last woman Bobbie was trying to save. And Maxie offered to set Angela up with some Port Charles residents to talk about Bobbie so she can finish her article, so look for Hertford in even more scenes on Thursday, Jan. 11!
